The Beauty of Rice ♥

In the Igbo culture, rice is common to many meals. In fact, rice is a staple dish for over two-thirds of the world. But did you know rice has more benefits than just eating? Rice is a good source of complex carbohydrates, iron, niacin, thiamine, and folic acid. With such great benefits, rice based products are common in many skin and hair cosmetics.

Rice bran oil is extracted from the germ and inner husk of rice. It is a natural anti-oxidant with a small degree of sunscreen protection. It has high levels of omega-3 and omega-9 fatty acids, which are ideal for preventing premature aging for the skin and hair. Rice bran oil is also a ceramide. A ceramide infuses fatty acids into the hair shaft allowing deep penetration of moisture as well as moisture retention. The SPF properties of rice bran oil give the hair protection against harmful rays from the sun.

Here is a quick DIY: Rice water skin finish

You will need: One cup of organic rice, a bowl and two cups of water.

Pour one cup of rice and two cups of water into a bowl. Mix the rice and water until the water turns cloudy. Decant the water into a spray bottle or holding jar. Apply the rice water to a freshly cleansed face with a cotton pad or spray liberally.

The nutritional properties of rice water help soothe the skin removing impurities and excess sebum. It also helps fight acne and works to improve the overall complexion of the skin.
